The abundance of musical talent on the SouthCoast of Massachusetts is brought to the concert stage as the Tri-County Symphonic Band highlights the works of local composers.  Stephen Wheeler (originally from Marion, MA) has written a piece especially for the Tri-County Symphonic Band entitled "Skies of Marion".  Steve is a former percussionist in the band and is now studying for a masters degree in musical composition at the Frost School of Music, University of Miami, FL.  "Lift" by Stephen Jean (originally from Somerset, MA) was premiered recently by the Charles River Wind Ensemble.  Steve has written a number of compositions for small and large ensemble and is happy to have "Lift" performed by the Tri-County Symphonic Band as he is a former member of the band's euphonium section.  A current member of the Tri-County Symphonic Band's clarinet section, Bryan Steele, has offered his "King Leopold" to the eclectic mix of compositions.  A New Bedford resident, Bryan has a wide range of experience as a composer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist.  "King Leopold" was re-orchestrated for the Tri-County Symphonic Band by Steele for this concert.  David Maslanka (originally from New Bedford, MA) is a composer of much renown.  His works have been performed by many of the finest ensembles throughout the world and widely recorded on major labels. "Give Us This Day" was personally recommended by Maslanka as a good fit for the Tri-County Symphonic Band.

Erik James Geil (born and raised in Marion, MA) will lend his interpretation to the Rachmaninoff masterpiece; "Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor."  The three-movement piece has lush melodies, agitated developments and grand climaxes.  A cornerstone of the piano repertoire, Mr. Geil will be premiering the concert band transcription written especially for him and the Tri-County Symphonic Band by Grammy Award winner Bob Freedman.
