Former Music Director Daniel A. Lasdow leads the Tri-County Symphonic Band in a collection of suites written for concert band. The works span the history of band music beginning with the masterpiece "First Suite for Military Band" by English composer Gustav Holst. Fellow Englishman Ralph Vaughan Williams wrote his "English Folk Song Suite" as he traveled the counrtryside in search of truly indigenous song. Robert Russell Bennett may be best known for his arrangements for Broadway but his "Suite of Old American Dances" is a cornerstone of the concert band repertoire as it spans the late 19th and 20th century popular dance music in the United States. Malcolm Arnold is most famous for his award winning film score for the 1957 motion picture "Bridge on the River Kwai." In "Prelude, Siciliano and Rondo", Arnold portrays vibrant musical mood shifts as the three movement suite unfolds.
Former Tri-County Symphonic Band percussionist and award-winning composer Stephen Wheeler has been commissioned to write a work for the band in celebration of the 50th concert season. "For Those Without a Voice" will receive its world premiere at this concert.
Philip Sanborn returns to the Tri-County stage as soloist for this concert. Mr. Sanborn is a Marion, MA resident and the current Music Director of the Tri-County Symphonic Band. He will be performing "All Those Endearing Young Charms" by Simone Mantia.
The "Sweets" portion of the program will be provided by Gail's Goodies of Mattapoisett. This will be set up in the lobby at intermission and will be free for all who attend.
