MUC Robert J. Couto, New Bedford, Massachusetts native, is currently section leader for the United States Navy Concert Band Trumpet Section and Assistant Solo Cornetist. He has earned a Bachelor of Music Degree from the Hartt School of Music and a Master of Music Degree from The Juilliard School. He has studied with Ray Mase and Chris Gekker. MUC Couto is also Musical Director for the Navy Band Brass Quintet and has performed with the American Brass Quintet, Hartford Symphony, New Haven Symphony, Harrisburg Symphony, Fairfax Symphony, and Annapolis Symphony. He is a former member of the George Washington University Faculty Brass Quintet.
MUC Couto is a graduate of New Bedford High School and was a recipient of a Tri-County Music Association College Scholarship in 1985. He studied with Joe Ribeiro and Jack Martin while in the New Bedford area.
MUC Couto will be performing "Trumpet Concerto in A-flat Major" by Alexander Arutiunian with the Tri-County Symphonic Band on Sunday, October 24, 2010.
