Michael Donovan's compositions include works for concert band, choral ensemble and orchestra.  A thirty-year veteran of the United States Air Force, Mr. Donovan was the Commander of the 567th Air Force Band from 1992 to 2002.  He earned his B.A. in Music Education from the Berklee College of Music and holds a Masters Degree in Music Theory and Composition from Boston Conservatory.  Mr. Donovan plays French Horn with the Cape Cod Concert Band and is an active jazz trumpeter.  Listeners may detect jazz influences in many of his compositions.  Now retired from his position as the Director of Fine Arts for the Saugus Public Schools, Mr. Donovan plays and composes music on Cape Cod.


Mr. Donovan's "Postcards from Buzzards Baby", commissioned by the Tri-County Music Association, was primered and performed by the Tri-County Symphonic Band in two concerts in March of 2019. On May 16, 2021, an encore virtual performance from these concerts, in cooperation with the Marion Art Center, will be presented online and on ORCTV.
