Staff Sergeant Jason Nickell was born in Saint Louis, Missouri. He graduated from Fort Zumwalt North High School in 2000 and days later, entered the United States Marine Corps. Upon completion of boot camp, he attended the Military School of Music in Norfolk, VA and then was stationed at the Marine Band in New Orleans, LA. He served his four year active duty enlistment there and then returned home to pursue his degree in music performance. He began at the University of Missouri - St. Louis in 2004, transferred to the University of North Texas in 2005, then to the University of Missouri - Columbia in 2006. He entered the Missouri Army National Guard as a truck driver in 2007 and was deployed to Iraq serving a one year tour with the 1138th Military Police Company in 2009. Upon his return, he decided to finish his degree where he started, at the University of Missouri - St. Louis where he graduated with his Bachelors of Music in Trumpet Performance in 2011.
Staff Sergeant Nickell enlisted in the Air Force and returned to active duty assigned to the Band of Liberty in March 2012.
Staff Sergeant Nickell soloed with the Tri-County Symphonic Band on March 17, 2013.
